Jr Systems Administrator

Function:

Implement and Maintain Corporate Systems (Operations management emphasis)

Reports To:

Operations Manager


Job Description:

  • Provide systems administration for multiple systems environments with emphasis on RedHat Linux systems including operating system, Microsoft and VMware ESX
  • Installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of Unix based operating systems, related utilities and hardware.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting Unix-based hardware and software problems.
  • Outage resolution & rotational 24x7 On call
  • Monitors systems activities and fine tunes system parameters and configuration to optimize performance and ensure security of systems.
  • Performs capacity analysis, monitors and controls usage of disk space.
  • Develops procedures for routine administration including backup/restore, shutdown, and startup.
  • Impact analysis for production changes and development of production change requests.
  • Provide desktop/server support for Microsoft operating systems (Windows XP, Windows Server 2003,2007) and applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Voice and Wireless systems administration

Complexity:

  • Junior professional level role.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues.
  • Performs troubleshooting for complex hardware, software and network problems.
  • Works on multiple projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project leader.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Typically has 2 to 4 years of IT work experience.
  • Requires a experience in multiple system environments with emphasis in Linux-based systems.
  • 2-4 years system administration experience desired (VMWare, Active Directory, LDAP)
  • 2-4 years Microsoft operating system
  • 2-4 years Windows 2003 Sever experience
  • 2-4 years RedHat Linux operating system knowledge
  • 2-4 years script writing (Linux, Nagios, and Shell programming)
  • 2-4 years implementing and maintaining systems monitoring (eg. Nagios and/or others)

Desirable skills:

  • 2-4 years SAN administration and engineering experience

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, or equivalent experience/education
  • Desirable Certifications: Red Hat Certified Engineer, VMware certification, Linux+
